It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Prof. C. N. YANG, Founding Chair of International Advisory Board of IAS, who left us on October 18, 2025 at the age of 103. A preeminent physicist, a scientific giant and a devoted educator, his wisdom and foresight were instrumental in steering us through our earliest challenges and helped shape the very foundation of IAS.

Prof. Yang’s century-long journey was marked by his extraordinary contributions and unwavering dedication to scientific discoveries. His pioneering theory on parity non-conservation in weak interactions, developed with his collaborator Prof. Tsung-Dao LEE, made them the first Chinese recipients of the Nobel Prize. The Yang-Mills theory which he later developed with his collaborator Prof. Robert MILLS to describe the behavior of elementary particles using the language of gauge fields, became a cornerstone of modern quantum field theory.  His influence extends far beyond his own discoveries—shaping the very foundations of modern physics and inspiring a lifelong pursuit of learning across the globe.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory remain a guiding light, illuminating the path of discovery and continuing to inspire us all.
