Prof. Gunther UHLMANN Wins the 2021 Birkhoff Prize in Applied Mathematics

Prof. Gunther UHLMANN, IAS Si Yuan Professor and Chair Professor of Mathematics, has been awarded the 2021 AMS-SIAM George David Birkhoff Prize in Applied Mathematics for “his fundamental and insightful contributions to inverse problems and partial differential equations, as well as for his incisive work on boundary rigidity, microlocal analysis and cloaking.” The prize was established in 1967 in honor of Prof. George David BIRKHOFF, an American mathematician who formulated the ergodic theorem. Jointly awarded by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) every three years, the honor recognizes scholars who have outstanding contributions to applied mathematics.
