Dr. Dongshi Guan received his BSc in Physics from Beijing Normal University in 2010 and his PhD in Physics from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2016. During 2014-2015, he spent 6 months at the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Physique in Grenoble France as a Visiting Scholar. After graduation, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Physics at HKUST. In April 2017, Dr. Guan became a Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Physics and a Junior Fellow in the Institute for Advanced Study at HKUST.

Dr. Guan’s research is in the area of experimental soft matter physics and biological physics, with focuses on wetting and contact line dynamics, contact angle hysteresis, mechanics of living cells and tissues, as well as the development of new atomic force microscopy techniques.
