Dr. Chan Shu Ning obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Hong Kong in 2013. He worked in Nanyang Technological University with the Singapore-MIT Research and Technology Alliance, and in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) for post-doctoral research from 2014 to 2017. In July 2017, he became a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST and a Junior Fellow at the HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study.

Dr. Chan’s research revolves around the use of hydraulics to solve environmental problems, in particular the prediction and control of water quality. His research interest is in the real-time forecast of water quality for smart cities, multi-phase flows, sediment transport, and fluid mechanics of water/wastewater treatment.
