Prof. Ross Murch received his BE and PhD from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. After starting his research career at the University of Dundee in the UK, he became a faculty member at the newly founded HKUST in 1992. He is now a Chair Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering.

Prof. Murch is an expert in wireless communications, MIMO, antennae and acoustics. He was named for 20 US patents and published his research on about 300 articles, cited over 10,000 times. He has served on editorial boards academic journals such as IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications (2002-2013), IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications: Special Issues on Vehicular Communications (2010-2011).

Prof. Murch is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE). He has been the Chair of the IEEE Communications Society technical committee on wireless communications and is also a distinguished lecturer for IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. He has won several awards including the Computer Simulation Technology (CST) University Publication Award in 2015. An outstanding teacher, Prof. Murch twice received the Teaching Excellence Appreciation Award by the HKUST School of Engineering (2001, 1998).
