Prof. Li Wei-Ping received his PhD from Columbia University in 1991. After he undertook postdoctoral research at Oklahoma State University, he joined the faculty of the newly established HKUST in 1992. He is now Chair Professor of Mathematics.

Prof. Li’s academic interests surround algebraic geometry. His research has been supported by numerous grants through the General Research Fund, Competitive Earmarked Research Grant and Direct Allocation Grant etc. He has served as referee for academic journals such as Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics, the Mathematical Research Letters, the Transactions of AMS, the Pacific Journal of Mathematics etc.

A passionate teacher, Prof. Li was for three times elected among the Best Ten Lecturers (1996-98) and received the School of Science Teaching Award.
