Prof. Liu Hao received his BS from Dalian University of Technology and his MS and PhD from Yokohama National University. He then joined different core institutes in Japan as research scientist including Ship Research Institute, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN). Between 1997 and 2000, he taught at Nagoya Institute of Technology as Assistant Professor. Since 2003, he has been with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chiba University and is currently the Director of Shanghai JiaoTong University and Chiba University International Cooperative Research Center (SJTU-CU ICRC).

Prof. Liu is an internationally leading researcher on bio-inspired systems including bio-inspired flight systems, flying vehicles/robots, and biomechanics in the cardiovascular system. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Aero Aqua Biomechanisms and on the editorial board of Biomimetics & Bioinspiration, Acta Mechanica Sinica and Journal of Bionics Engineering.
