Prof. Leng Jinsong earned his BS in Engineering Mechanics in 1990 and his PhD in Composite Materials in 1996, both from the Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). From 1993 to 1998, he held various academic positions at HIT, including Assistant Professor, Lecturer, and Associate Professor. In 1998, he joined Nanyang Technological University in Singapore as a Research Fellow. He then moved to the UK, where he continued his research as a Research Fellow at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom at Cranfield University (2000-2002) and the Photonics Research Group at Aston University (2002-2004). He returned to HIT in 2004 and currently serves as a Professor and the Director of the Center for Smart Materials and Structures at the School of Astronautics. He is also the Dean of the School of Future Technology at HIT.

Prof. Leng's research focuses on smart materials and structures, sensors and actuators, stimulus-responsive polymers (including shape memory and electro-active polymers) and their composites, multifunctional nanocomposites, and 4D printing. He has served as the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials and as an Associate Editor for Smart Materials and Structures and the Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, among other publications.

Prof. Leng is currently the Vice President of the International Committee on Composite Materials, of the Chinese Society for Composite Materials, and of the Chinese Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He is also a Fellow of several prestigious organizations, including SPIE, the Institute of Physics, the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, the Royal Aeronautical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In recognition of his contributions to the field, he was elected as a Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2017, a Foreign Member of the Academia Europaea in 2018, and a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2021.
