Prof. Lee Chung-Yee received his PhD in Operations Research from Yale University in 1984. Before joining HKUST in 2001, he was Rockwell Chair Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Texas A&M University. He worked as a plant manager and also had several years of consulting experience in Taiwan. In the past 22 years, he has engaged in numerous research projects sponsored by NSF, RGC, ITF, IBM, Motorola, AT&T Paradyne, Harris Semiconductor, Northern Telecom, Martin Marietta, Hactl, and Philips Medical. He is the Founding and Current Director of Logistics and Supply Chain Management Institute at HKUST. He is currently Cheong Ying Chan Professor of Engineering of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management of HKUST, where he served as Department Head from 2001 to 2008.

Prof. Lee’s research areas are in logistics and supply chain management, scheduling and inventory management. He has engaged in numerous research projects sponsored by industries in U.S. and Hong Kong. He has published more than 100 papers in refereed journals.

Prof. Lee is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers in U.S. and also a Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Science. According to an article in Int. J. Prod. Eco. (2009), which looked at all papers published in the 20 core journals during last 50 years in the field of production and operations management, he was ranked No. 6 among all researchers worldwide in h-index.
