Research Areas:
Pharmacology, with emphasis on regulation of intracellular calcium signaling
Prof. Antony Galione received his PhD from University of Cambridge in 1989. He has joined the University of Oxford since 1991, and became a professor of Pharmacology in 2002. He was the Chair of the Department in 2006-2015 and is currently Statutory Professor of Pharmacology.
Prof. Galione’s principal research interest has been the regulation of intracellular calcium signaling by cyclic ADP-ribose and NAADP, emerging intracellular messengers for calcium mobilization. He has published over 100 peer reviewed research papers, with many appearing in journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell. He received the 2001 Novartis Prize of the British Pharmacological Society and became a Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences in 2010 and of the UK Royal Society in 2016.
