Dr. XU Duoduo received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Shandong University in 2011 and her PhD in Social Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2016. Under the supervision of Prof. WU Xiaogang, she has been working at the Center for Applied Social and Economic Research of the Division of Social Science as a student trainee since she came to HKUST. In 2015, she spent six months in Population Studies Center of the University of Michigan followed by another six months in the Department of Sociology of the University of Oxford as a visiting scholar. Since 2017, Dr. Xu has been appointed as a Research Assistant Professor of the Division of Social Science and a Junior Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study at HKUST.

Dr. Xu’s research centers on educational inequalities in Chinese societies, including Hong Kong, mainland China, Macau, and Taiwan. She employs various quantitative methods to analyze school-based survey data, aiming to address the causal impacts of education policy, migration/immigration, and family background on the educational outcomes of children and youths. Dr. Xu has been working closely with Prof. Wu Xiaogangon some large-scale projects, such as the Hong Kong Panel Study of Social Dynamics (HKPSSD), and Beijing College Student Panel Survey (BCSPS). Currently, they are working on a new project on Early Childhood Investment and Intervention (ECII) in Hong Kong.
