Dr. Xiang Ma received his PhD in Economics from Yale University. His areas of expertise include Development Economics and Applied Econometrics. His research focuses on public good provision and agriculture in emerging markets. He conducted field work in Gansu Province of China and studied school consolidation there. His doctoral dissertation examines local governments’ motivation in consolidating schools, in which more than half of primary schools were closed. During the graduate study, he won the Cowles Foundation Fellowship and the Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship from Yale University. He joined HKUST as IAS and IEMS Postdoctoral Fellow in August 2016.
Dr. Ma worked with Prof. Albert Park.
