Dr. Duruo Huang received her BEng from Tsinghua University in 2008, followed by three years of working experience as a Geophysics Field Engineer at Schlumberger Ltd. She received her PhD in geotechnical engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2016. In July 2017, Dr. Huang was appointed a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at HKUST and a Junior Fellow at the HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study.
Dr. Huang' s research aims at understanding the effects of earthquake hazard to improve sustainability and resilience of key infrastructure. Her research interests include characterization of strong motions, computational technology for earthquake ground-motion simulation and soil-structure interaction, as well as seismic resilience of urban infrastructure and hydraulic systems. She is the winner of "Ringo Yu Prize for Best PhD Thesis in Geotechnical Studies 2016" from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Geotechnical Division, and "Liu Huixian Earthquake Engineering Scholarship Award" from Huixian Earthquake Engineering Foundation and US-China Earthquake Engineering Foundation.
