Former IAS Junior Fellow
Research Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, HKUST

Dr. Che Wenwei received her PhD in Atmospheric Environmental Science from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in 2014. After graduation, she worked as Research Associate of the Division of Environment at HKUST from 2014 to 2017. In June 2017, Dr. Che was appointed as Research Assistant Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Junior Fellow of HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study.

Dr. Che’s research vision is to develop new, personalized and exposure-based air quality management (AQM) paradigm that can augment the current concentration-based AQM philosophy. In particular, her research focuses on the design, development, and implementation of an observation and modeling framework that can effectively quantify population and personal exposure to harmful air pollutants. Her current research topics include: (1) quantification of exposure concentrations in different microenvironments using new community-scale sensor; (2) assessment of population exposure using stochastic models and big data technology; (3) prediction of individual exposure with interactive and position tracking mobile App; and (4) development and evaluation of exposure reduction strategies for smart green city.
