Talk 1: Theory Prospective on Neutrino Masses, Mixing and Leptonic CP Violation

Date: 31 July 2014 (Thursday)
Time: 1:30 pm
Venue: Room 4042, 4/F, Lo Ka Chung Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, HKUST

Abstract:

The compelling experimental evidences for oscillations of solar and atmospheric neutrinos imply the existence of 3-neutrino mixing in vacuum. The phenomenology of 3-neutrino mixing, of the Dirac and Majorana CP violation in the lepton sector, as well as the current data on the 3-neutrino mixing parameters will be briefly reviewed. The open questions and the main goals of future research in the field of neutrino mixing and oscillations will be outlined. Current theoretical ideas about the origin of the pattern of neutrino mixing emerging from the data as well as about the mechanism of neutrino mass generation, will be discussed. The problem of determination of the nature - Dirac or Majorana, of massive neutrinos will also be briefly reviewed.

Talk 2: Leptonic CP Violation and Leptogenesis

Date: 1 August 2014 (Friday)
Time: 2:00 pm
Venue: Room 4042, 4/F, Lo Ka Chung Building, Lee Shau Kee Campus, HKUST

Abstract:

The compelling experimental evidences for oscillations of neutrinos imply the existence of 3-neutrino mixing in the charged current weak interaction Lagrangian. The phenomenology of 3-neutrino mixing, of the Dirac and Majorana CP violation in the lepton sector, as well as the current data on the 3-neutrino mixing parameters, will be briefly reviewed. The prospects of the searches for CP violation in neutrino oscillations will be considered. The leptogenesis scenario of generation of the baryon asymmetry of the Universe will be discussed in details with emphasis on the possibility that the CP violation necessary for having successful leptogenesis is exclusively due to the Dirac or Majorana CP violating phase(s) in the neutrino mixing matrix.
