The theme for this year is Fundamental Physics which has made major discoveries in recent years. The discovery of the Higgs Boson (the so-called God particle) was named the 2012 “Breakthrough of the Year” by SCIENCE. The result from the Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment is also named one of the “Top 10 Discoveries of 2012”. Now, 2014 marked the year when Hong Kong, as a modern developed society, is joining a world-wide research collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider in Europe in exploring the fundamental structure of matter and the origin of our universe.
