IAS Program on Particle Theory

D-branes and Large Field Inflation

Abstract

The speaker will review several attempts to realise large field inflation in string theory, more precisely in type II compactifications where the inflaton sector is related to the D-brane sector of the theory. Examples will include Higgs-otic inflation and chaotic inflation from bilinear superpotentials. He will also discuss the flattening effects that appear in these examples, and that allow them to interpolate between model of linear and quadratic chaotic inflation.
